The lake was created in 1980 by damming the mainstream of the Applegate River 47 miles upstream from its confluence with the Rogue. This lake is located in the Siskiyou Mountains within the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. This is a flood control reservoir and depth varies dramatically between spring and fall.
