- All persons under 17 (residents and non-residents) are exempt; Texas residents born before January 1, 1931 are exempt. Senior resident packages for 65+.
Good to know
Freshwater license = license + freshwater endorsement packaged. Northern pike and muskellunge are not listed: no statewide bag or length limits for unlisted freshwater fishes. Many lake-specific exceptions (search tool on tpwd.texas.gov). From Aug 3, 2026 applicants 17+ must be physically present with valid ID to obtain a license (purchase requirements page).
